Bridge Building in STEM

Bridge Building in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Class

As a requirement of Coach Rob Alford’s STEM class, 8th grade students at Rod Paige are in the process of designing and building bridges made of balsa wood and wood glue. The goal of this project is to build the lightest bridge that can hold the most weight. Bridges typically weigh 15 grams to 30 grams. Students are currently in competition with each other to determine which bridges can hold the most weight. At the time of this publication, one of the bridges held 84 lbs and weighed 36 grams. Once winners are determine and update will be provided to show the bridge has the highest efficiency of bridge capacity to bridge weight.
